Animatic First Pass -Again

My first animatic somehow deleted itself so I had to redo it. So it has an amazing tree in there and awesome annotations throughout. Quality stuff.

I used my brother as video reference for timing. The Okapi looks munted because he isn't weight painted properly. Every time I try to do it, it screws up somehow so I'll ask Tanya next class how to fix it.

 What's happening here...?

Colour Palate Changes

After getting feedback today in class I decided to change my colour palate to more contrasting and interesting colours.

Storyboard Changes

I made a first pass of my animatic for my formative assessment but my amazing computer/ fate deleted it.  But since my original story seemed very boring compared to how hilarious and exaggerated it could be, I decided to made some drastic changes which adds more action, slapstick qualities and interest.

New Story:
  • Pose
  • Turns head to face audience
  • Head drops to ground
  • Tries to pick up head (1-2-3 count)
  • Pulls head off ground fast
  • On back legs wobbling around
  • Bouncing on one leg to left
  • Falls into tree
  • Horn stuck in tree
  • Tries to pull head free from tree
  • Frees himself from tree
  • Horn flies off him (flies off screen)
  • Okapi lands on four legs
  • Realizes his horn is gone
  • Looks right then left for it
  • Looks at camera
  • Looks up
  • Horn enters scene from the top
  • Hits Okapi on the head
  • Knocks him out

Scenery Research

I was looking into a rocky landscapes which I think suits my colour scheme really well.
I really like the rocks stacked on top of each other and pointy mountains.

Colour Palatte Research

I want to have a more natural environment colouring but I am definitely open to adding in bolder colours if I feel it benefits the animation more. My character is a warm blue so I want to make sure that the environment coluring compliments his.

This is an example of environment I used before. I really like the colours together and I think they could tie in nicely with my character. I especially love the greeny yellows as the background fades out.

This is a photo example of environment I'm interested in. These colours are very rich and blend in nicely with my character's texture and colouring. I'd want to avoid having my character against this blue sky as it is too similar.

I am leaning towards the last colour palate because it is brighter and bolder. This colour palate also relates more to the fun more playful side of my story.

Environment Inspiration

Ideally I'd like to have this styled matte painting for my animation but I don't really know how to digitally paint so I know that won't happen. I want the matte paintings to have one colour theme to it. I like more detail in the front while it fades out as it goes back.

Research: African Landscapes

This isn't an African landscape but I really want to have something like it in the background.
